Fort Harrison - Cantonment Area Master Plan
The Montana National Guard (MTNG) retained the services of the SMA Design Team to assist them with a 10-year Master Plan of their 8,500 acre facility. Our work included all aspects of analysis of existing building conditions and campus infrastructure including civil, mechanical, and electrical and information technology infrastructure. We worked closely with the City of Helena and Lewis & Clark County to coordinate our work with adjacent proposed and approved developments. We analyzed aspects including security, traffic, landing strips, storm water drainage, historical preservation, training ranges and more. We assisted with the preliminary programming and adjacencies of existing to proposed facilities (13 new and/ or renovated) and developed a new $1,500,000 main entrance concept to address security and appropriate traffic control.
SMA has been fortunate to have a significant role in the future planning of the Guard facilities at Fort Harrison and Helena Regional Airport. The planning process included a thorough study and master plan of the facilities and infrastructure of the Fort Harrison cantonment area, the adjacent range and training grounds, and finally a planning study and analysis of the Airport facilities. Several implementation projects have stemmed from the master plan process including a redesign of the Fort Harrison Entry Gate.
