Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Courthouse
Exterior Renovation & Master Plan
SMA documented and analyzed the condition of the exterior sandstone veneer and stonework at the Anaconda - Deer Lodge County Courthouse. Constructed in 1898 and designed by the same architects who designed the Capitol in Helena, the Courthouse features native sandstone veneer and detailing which have unfortunately sustained considerable damage over the century. Working with Anaconda - Deer Lodge County, SMA has prepared a study recommending steps and planning to stabilize and restore this southwest Montana architectural landmark; prioritizing areas of work and repair will help the county in their ongoing restoration efforts, and Phases I and II have recently been completed.
SMA conducted a Master Plan / Preliminary Architectural Report for Anaconda - Deer Lodge County, studying space needs and department planning. This report analyzed the adjacent historical building, under utilized or overutilized components of the Courthouse, public access, accessibility, security, and efficiency. This process includes study of the existing Courtroom spaces, county administration offices, and asbestos abatement.
