Center for Mental Health
In 2017, SMA Architects was hired by Center for Mental Health to write a preliminary architectural report to plan and seek funding for a new group home in Helena, Montana.
Upon successfully receiving a block grant from CDBG, the Center for Mental Health worked closely with SMA Architects to design a residential group home to serve twelve individuals in need of transitional housing in the Helena community. Located just one block north of the Center for Mental Health Helena Office, the group home provides residents the resources needed to find stability and support in a safe, home-like atmosphere. Designed around communal living spaces, three 4 bedroom groups will serve both men and women over the age of 18. The design includes an open kitchen/dining/living area for larger gatherings as well as smaller, more intimate living spaces for residents to find respite.
The group home was designed as a mental health facility where private spaces take resident safety into account with ligature resistant design considerations. The residential group home was completed in Fall 2020, increasing the number of transitional living opportunities to an under served population in the Helena community.
